I moved to Milwaukee from Mass so i know what your moves like. Big Transistion for sure, people are super chill but that will get on your nerves I bet coming from the east. Its so nice after awhile though... Elevation blows but when your lapping a park it doesnt matter really. Theres just no like "real" skiing you can have fun though. We are getting an Ill ski scene here in Milwaukee so get stoked.

Subject: Moving to Wisconsin
I'm moving to wisconsin from New York. Im wondering what are the best ski centers around Milwaukee? What is the snow/terrain like and ticket/season pass prices? I looked at a couple online and it doesnt look like much elevation... I like em steep! Any info would be awesome thanks!
Grand Genva's Vertical drop is 211 FT.
Everything else is around the same around here so nothing to big

sunburst is about 50 mins from milwaukee. tyrol basin is about 2hours as well as cascade. there is also alpine valley don't know how long of a drive it is but it isn't that far.

im an optimist. and i have a sweet job. is it really worse than east coast ice? ive been out west a few times, but only in the summer. still had a snowball fight in july!! 6 weeks off and go wherever.
go to the up! mt bohemia is prob the closest to mig mountain (like) skiing you can get around here. But for near milwaukee sunburst will probably be your best bet otherwise alpine has the most vertical within a 45 min drive they both have good parks too, alpines seems bigger tho

Sunburst is 45 minutes from milwaukee, pretty decent park, lots of boarders and gets rutted out easily, tons of boxes and decent jumps
Tyrol is an Hour and 45 minutes away and has a sick park, tons of rails, good jumps, doesnt get rutted out to much it seems
Cascade is about an Hour and 45 also, nice rail park, crappy jumps at least right now, used to be so sick but has really fallen off
those are your best 3 i would say around the Milwaukee area.
Alpine is also about 45 away and is decent but is very expensive and has hundreds of gapers running through the park at any moment

thats cool. I had to live in Florida for for 2 years so anywhere north can't be nearly as bad. I'm lookin foward to it. I'm loadin the uhaul and hittin the road and not lookin back. New York is loosing its appeal fast.

actually i went to alpine friday and it was a pretty damn good, a big step up from last year

but i work there and its on the way home from school. We are doing our best, and hope to have at least half the hill all park by end of feb. As of now tho... i have no idea why people pay to ski there

yes, the ice here really is as bad as out east....the closest to big mountain skiing you'll get is possibly granite peak (700' vertical) and a couple hours from milwaukee...if your willing to travel farther, the U.P. has quite a few decent resorts, and possibly the best would be in Minnesota, lutsen mountain, which is actually a resort of 4 mountains, no idea what the park is like, but i went their when i was younger and it was pretty nice....

Theres no terrain, the parks are not kept very well, its always icy, welcome to wisconsin
you're best bet for steep stuff is driving up to upper michigan, at mt. bohemia and then you'll find some dece skiing, expect a 8 hr drive

Cascade is seriously that bad this year? I'm from Green Bay and usually go there once a year. I've been going for about 3 years and I can say it has been progressively worse, but it was never AWFUL. Did the park manager quit or get fired or something? He seemed pretty on it last I talked to him in early 2008.
Oh yeah and Marquette Mtn in michigan probably has the best park in the midwest every year. From Milwaukee expect a drive.

I havent been this year, but besides taking the half pipe away it was good last year, it doesnt usaully get good til feb, march, begging through jan it blows tho

have you been to alpine this year? the park gets walked thru at least twice an hour by park crew. go on tuesdays when its 2 tickets fr the price of one. and it gets groomed every single night on top of what the park crew does during the day.

Yo! I havent been on in awhile, but the drive out here was almost perfect. took about 16 hours. So far im diggin Milwaukee, gonna check out summerfest friday i guess. hopefully weather is alright. been to water st only a couple times. got set up in greenfield, some cool little bars around. workin my ass off and waitin for winter, but lovin summer.

i've never experienced a winter out west but midwest winters are still really fun
midwest isn't that bad, it gets icy sometimes but so do a lot of parks. our hills are smaller but tyrol has a pretty nice park and you can lap it pretty quick which is nice. im already soooo stoked for winter, only like....3 months left!

if you don't like milwaukee to begin with it will grow on you and you will like it. but sounds liek you like it already. the only thing is that there are no summer setups around here(PLEASE correct me if I am wrong) Yo! i think most areas in WI have night skiing because all of them are so small. tyrol, devils head, and cascade (Madison area) all have night skiing-im sure all milwaukee areas have night skiing too

no state has better bars, overall, than wisconsin. i've never been to a bad bar there, just different styles. dive bars to hot dance clubs, you can find them all within walking distance of eachother. i grew up in a town of about 4500 people and there were something like 19 bars when i turned 21. that is one bar for every two hundred or so people without taking into account their age.
the entire city of milwaukee was founded on beer. what better reason for a city can there be?
nobody parties like sconnie kids, i don't care who they are or where they are from. sure there may be individuals that can rage pretty hard, and other places have their big spring break events, but as a generality, wisconsin is the rowdiest party state year round, hands down.
it almost makes up for the ski areas. almost. growing up at a place there (wilmot for example) can be a lot of fun, but if you are moving there and have experienced the rockies or other similar places, you will fell underwhelmed. it is, however, a great place to have a lot of fun on the hill, and you don't really have to be sober at all to handle anything thrown at you.

there wasnt that much country, and check out the rave, they have metal concerts pretty often.

Id take FL in the summer any day over Wisco. But its the whole no snow thing that get me. Maybe Ill do the opposite of all the old people. Move north in the winters, and migrate south in the summers.indeed. try out florida and you'll love sconsin
Yea sunburst is def the best thats closest to u and u probably will see me there all the time i go there like 5 or 4 times a week
