It seems to me like there's starting to be a shift in the overall style of edits, and I'd like to know what everyone's thoughts are on it.
When freeskiing was still fairly new, glidecams and HD cameras were basically non existent. The whole fisheye lens / "not trying hard" look is what a ton of filmers did, and didn't think twice about. It's what you had to do to make your edits "normal" on NS.
Movies weren't all that much different. Fisheyes may not have been as used as much, but still, the early movies weren't in high definition.
Then we saw this crazy burst in DSLR camera popularity. People could buy DSLR's at a fairly low cost. All of a sudden, these cameras were what every filmer had to have. NS became flooded with these very high quality videos. For the most part, viewers love/loved them.
Lately, I've been seeing people post that edits make them bored. That they're all the same. It's not really surprising to me.
It seems to me that more and more filmers/crews are trying to still use that DSLR look, but mix it in with the fisheye/gritty style. If you want to know exactly what I'm talking about, check out the video below. Or just watch TheBUNCH's new trailer or TrashParty's new trailer in the videos section -- those are two other great examples.
So what do you think NS? What kind of edits do you prefer? Are you tired of edits with glidecam shot after glidecam shot?
